Nemours Appoints Renowned Pediatric Experts to Lead New Hospital

We are pleased to announce several new additions to the clinical leadership team at Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH), which will open in Lake Nona’s Medical City next fall.

George Mychaskiw, D.O., has been appointed Chair of Anesthesia. Dr. Mychaskiw most recently served as Professor and Chair of Anesthesia at Drexel University College of Medicine and Clinical Service Chief of Anesthesia at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his undergraduate training at Colorado College, graduate studies at University of Colorado, and medical school at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri. He later served as an intern, anesthesiology resident and fellow in both cardiac and pediatric anesthesiology at Yale University.

Monica Epelman, M.D. has been appointed Vice Chairman of Radiology and Director of Clinical Radiology Research. She joins the organization from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania where she most recently served as Director of Neonatal Imaging.  A native of Argentina, Dr. Epelman attended medical school at Medicas Universidad Nacional de Cordoba. She completed her pediatric residency at Hospital Infantil Municipal (Cordoba) and radiology residency in Israel. Dr. Epelman also completed four years of fellowship training in pediatric radiology, as well as cardiovascular and interventional radiology at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.

Lloyd N. Werk, M.D., M.P.H. has accepted the position of Division Chief of General Pediatrics. Dr. Werk has been associated with the organization since 1999. In his new role, he will model the medical home through its integrated primary care, hospital care, and special interest clinics, as well as facilitate collaboration with other clinical services. Dr. Werk will continue his work as an advocate for children and families with ongoing clinical and health services research and community programs.

Richard S. Finkel, M.D. has accepted the position of Division Chief of Neurology. He joins the organization from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where he served as Director of the Neuromuscular Program and as a professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Finkel completed his undergraduate training at Jefferson College and medical school training at Washington University. He also served as a Pediatric Resident at Boston Children’s Hospital and Neurology Resident, including training in Neuromuscular and Electromyogrpahy within the Harvard University system.

Adalberto Torres, Jr., M.D. has accepted the position of Division Chief of Critical Care, leading the evaluation and treatment of the most critically ill children in the hospital. Dr. Torres joins Nemours from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Illinois where he served as the medical Director of both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory Care. After completing his undergraduate studies at Loyola University, Dr. Torres earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois. He completed his pediatric residency at Loyola University, where he also served as Chief Resident, and Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
