NCH Preview Center Showcases Family-Centered Care and Innovation

Nemours today announces the public opening of the Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH) Preview Center which is located at 9145 Narcoossee Road, Suite A102 in Orlando, Fla. The facility will introduce the new hospital to the community and showcase the transformation of family-centered pediatric care delivery in the 21^st century. The NCH Preview Center will also serve as a test site for technology, equipment and furnishings, as well as a place to recruit quality professionals and support the training and orientation of new hospital personnel.

“This is an exciting day for Nemours and the patient families that have helped us design the preview center and hospital,” said Roger Oxendale, president and chief executive officer of Nemours Children’s Hospital. “Parents are experts at caring for their own children and we continue to listen to their needs. This new test-bed of ideas exemplifies how together as a team, we can produce efficiencies and better outcomes for medically complex children.”

The NCH Preview Center illustrates the integration between Nemours’ family-centered model of care and the hospital/clinic architecture that will support the delivery of education, research and advocacy. In family-centered care, parents are deeply involved in their child’s care by partnering with doctors and nurses, eliminating the old model of authority driven decision making. The innovative designs and technology in the NCH Preview Center support this partnership and create an environment that enhances communication between the family and caregiver, improves the quality and safety of patient care, and helps parents and children feel comfortable and in control.

Visitors to the new facility will be able to explore full-scale hospital replicas of an outpatient exam room, Emergency Department (ED) room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) inpatient room and a Medical Surgical inpatient room. Beginning February 18, the NCH Preview Center will be open to the public Tuesday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Nemours is currently building a top-tier pediatric health care system in Orlando that began in June 2009. The 630,000-square-foot children’s hospital located in Lake Nona’s Medical City will open in 2012 with 95 beds and potential capacity of up to 139 beds, a children’s clinic, ED, diagnostic and ambulatory programs along with education and research centers.
