Nemours Files Third CON Application
Today, Nemours submitted its third Certificate of Need (CON) application for a
proposed children’s hospital in Orlando to the State of Florida’s Agency for Healthcare Administration
(AHCA).
This application includes letters of support from the University of Central Florida and the Burnham
Research Institute. It also includes proclamations of support from more than 20 local municipalities, including Orange County and the City of Orlando, and community organizations. This application also reflects the Lake Nona area as the site for the proposed children’s health care campus, which has earned Nemours conditional support from the area’s two community hospital systems. A decision is expected from the state in mid-June of this year.
“This third application is evidence that we remain fully committed to meeting the health care needs of the children of Central Florida. Working in synergy with the UCF Medical School and the Burnham Research Institute, Nemours has an opportunity to bring something very unique to the region,” states Jeff Green, Nemours Florida Chief Administrative Officer. “Alliances with like organizations will make a positive difference for the patients of Nemours as well as Orlando’s growing life sciences sector.”
This CON application articulates a comprehensive plan for an integrated pediatric health care system that includes clinical research, allied health training and education programs, and specialty clinical services delivered through a pediatric hospital, children’s clinic and ambulatory surgery center.
Nemours first two applications were denied by the state in June and December of 2006 and Nemours is currently appealing the state’s decision of the second application.
