Nemours Participates In Florida Children’s Week 2009

As a sponsor of the 14th Annual Florida Children’s Week, Nemours and more than 80 statewide partners and corporations dedicated to children will welcome thousands of people to the capital to focus on important legislative issues that impact the future of Florida’s children. The events will take place in Tallahassee on March 30 and March 31.

For the third consecutive year, Nemours is proud to host the “Capital Steps for Kids” program and provide free pedometers to children, advocates and health care providers to track the number of steps walked for children’s issues during the 2009 Florida Legislative Session in an effort to promote healthy, active lifestyles.

Nemours will announce the total number of steps walked during the 2009 Hanging of the Hands Dedication Ceremony on Tuesday, March 31 at 9 a.m. inside the Capitol Rotunda. Last year, Nemours announced a total of eight million steps walked for children’s issues during the Florida Legislative Session.

In addition to Nemours’ “Capital Steps for Kids” program, children and parents will be able to participate in “Children’s Capitol for a Day,” a program that allows participants to meet with legislators, learn the legislative process and partake in interactive games and activities designed for children of all ages. The program is one of many other Children’s Week events designed to highlight assorted programs, services and issues that focus on the health and safety of Florida’s children and families.

During the “Children’s Capitol for a Day” attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Nemours BrightStart! mobile classroom which will be parked on the grounds of the State Capitol. Legislators will be offered specialized tours of the mobile classroom and will be given a packet of information about Nemours plans’ for Florida and the Nemours Children’s Hospital.
