Nemours Supports Medical City Partner

On Monday, August 3, Nemours leaders participated in a “White Coat Ceremony” welcoming the inaugural class of the University of Central Florida (UCF) College Of Medicine. The new college will be located in Lake Nona’s medical city, in close proximity to the Nemours Children’s Hospital.

With many pediatric subspecialties experiencing a decreasing supply of physicians, Nemours is playing a prominent role in filling that need with training programs for medical students, post graduate resident programs and fellows in areas of concentrated interest. In 2008 alone, Nemours trained over 1,000 medical students, residents and fellows across the Enterprise. Academic partners include the Mayo Clinic Medical College, the University of Delaware, the University of Florida and Thomas Jefferson University.

Building upon that success, and consistent with the mission of our organization to provide education, research and advocacy, as well as pediatric subspecialty care for children, Nemours is investing in two full scholarships for the inaugural class of the UCF College of Medicine. One full scholarship has been granted by the Nemours Foundation, and the second is funded in part by the A.I. duPont Testamentary Trust and the Ed Ball Fund.

Nemours is investing in the inaugural class to assist the medical school to attract the brightest and most well rounded students. Our support of this program permits Nemours to stimulate interest in pediatric specialty areas, as well as assist the College of Medicine to provide the highest quality medical education. The charter class boasts the highest average MCAT score (32.2) and GPA (3.8) of any incoming class of medical students in the State of Florida.
